Former Upper East Regional Minister and senior member of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) Prof. Ephraim Avea Nsoh has praised the President John Mahama’s State of the Nation Address as spot on.

Speaking Monday in an interview on Breakfast Today on Dreamz FM, Prof. Avea Nsoh said the address reflected the policy successes of the Mahama administration in improving the fortunes of the country in its first year in office.

The academic, however, faulted the address for what he was its repetitiveness and failure to properly address the African question.

He argued that the President spent a significant portion of the address rehashing manifesto promises of the NDC, instead of spelling out measures his administration intends to implement that will leverage the positive economic indicators to improve the living conditions of Ghanaians.

He believes the address could have been brief and comprehensive.

“All these other things about what we want to do and all that, and the most very uninspiring aspect of it is that we are repeating a lot of our manifesto promises, and what the finance minister or he himself or some of us have said somewhere about what we want to do. That is not a thing for me, because that was in the finance minister’s budget statement.”

Prof. Avea Nsoh is also unimpressed with the President’s address on the continent’s unity and progress.

He argued that the President Mahama spelled out the challenges besetting the continent’s progress without proffering solutions.

“He began most largely talking about how, what we have done and all, and how we cannot operate differently, we must operate as Africans. So what is Ghana’s position in terms of the unity? You could not see it.

He talked a lot about the need to work together, we cannot work alone.  And so what?”

President John Dramani Mahama delivered the State of the Nation Address on February 27, 2026 on the floor of Parliament.

He highlighted the challenging state of the country when he took over as President and the steps his administration has taken to address the challenges and the successes chalked so far.

He also announced policies and projects his administration to consolidate the economic turn around and improve living standards.

The president further reiterated Ghana’s commitment to the continent’s unity and progress, saying that the Accra Reset is critical in achieving these.
