FILSON AWANKUA, FOUNDER RRU4DMB

The Founder of the Rapid Response Unit for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia (RRU4DMB), Filson Awankua, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to reduce his engagement on social media and concentrate on addressing the recent power supply disruptions.

Mr. Awankua criticized the government’s handling of the energy sector, urging authorities to adopt more effective measures to resolve the crisis.

He expressed concern about the impact of the erratic power supply on final-year senior high school students preparing for their exams, noting that  secondary schools in the country lack reliable backup power and depend heavily on consistent electricity to support learning.

According to him, the administration should prioritize managing the power crisis rather than engaging in what he described as publicity-driven activities on social media.

“Our children are writing, my boy is writing and you put lights off. How do they revise and I am challenging you the media. Go to the secondary schools and see and this is the time they are preparing. So, I’m appealing to President Mahama. I’m appealing to the Energy Minister; the social media talking is too much. They should stop talking and fix the crisis.” He stressed.

Meanwhile, the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, attributed the recent power challenges to years of underinvestment in the sector, as well as a recent major fire incident at the Akosombo Power Plant.
