Candidates preparing to sit for this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) have been encouraged to study hard if they desire to be placed in their first choice of Senior High Schools.
Apam Elvis, the Bolgatanga Deputy Municipal Director of GES in charge of Examination said although the examination is just few days away, candidates can still make good grades if they study hard.
He urged them to make good use of the remaining days and prepare adequately for the examination.
“Most students will want to select categories A schools as their first choice. If you study hard and get a good grade, you can get the category A school. If you don’t study hard, there’s no way you will get a category A school,” he noted in an interview on Breakfast Today.
“So I will use this opportunity to ask them to stick to their books. Though the exams starts on Monday, if you’re really determined, you can use one or two days to put yourself together and get a good grade that will give you a good school that you desire for yourself”.
Mr. Apam Elvis cautioned candidates and their guardians against procuring supposed leaked examination questions.
He said such acts will not only distract their preparation for the exams but also get them into trouble if they are found out.
“We tell them what the punishments are when you engage in some of these activities like cheating in the exams hall and usually, around this period we have some unscrupulous people who come around, claiming they have ‘apor’ questions for students to pay”.
“The BECE exams is set at their level. The syllabus has been given to them, they gave studied it for 3 years so they don’t need to stress themselves by looking for extra materials. Once you stick to the syllabus and what your teachers have been teaching you, there’s no way that you will fail,” he urged.
The Basic Education Certificate Examination is set to commence on Monday, August 7, 2023 across the country.
Speaking on preparation ahead of the examination, the Public Relations Officer for the Bolgatanga Municipal Directorate of GES, Frederick Ayine Agunga-Dongo said all is set for the examination in the Municipality.
“All that we need to kick-start the exams is in place. We have taken delivery of some materials which are pencils, the booklets, the answer sheets and they have been sent to the various centres”.
