ROBERT ALIBO- NPP PARLIMANTARY ASPIRANT, TALENSI

Robert Ayinenaba Alibo, a parliamentary candidate aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Talensi Constituency is of the strong conviction that the party’s poor performance in parliamentary elections, over the years, is as a result of the failure of delegates to present quality candidates that reflect the will of party’s members.

He holds the opinion that the elephant party can snatch the seat from the National Democratic Congress (NDC)but that he says is hinged on delegates choosing the right candidate which he thinks is him.

The NPP only won the Talensi Constituency once, in 2012 but lost it again in the 2015 by-election. The party has since not been able to recapture the seat.

But speaking Tuesday on the State of Our Nation, Mr. Alibo, strongly disagrees with assertion that the Talensi Constituency is a safe zone for the NDC. Rather,  he believes his party has always not listened to the people of Talensi.

“I don’t think that the NDC has total control over the area. NPP just needs to do its home work well and then we can have conversations with the NDC.

The appropriate thing to do is for our delegates to put their ears on the ground and once party members say vote for Alibo, non-party members say go for Alibo. Even NDC members whisper it is Alibo we are afraid of. Then you have got to go for Alibo,” he states.

He adds that the poor  performance over the years is as a result of some mistakes that include not selecting the right candidate.

“We have made mistakes in the past including not selecting the right candidate and it is obvious, if you select a candidate that the people do not like, you are not going to twist their arms to vote for that candidate. There are times that we could have easily won even with Madam Adukomah even in those days. But certain things happened”.

He is therefore urging delegates of the party to listen to the grassroots of the party and beyond the circles of NPP as he views himself as a well known character in the constituency.

“Alibo has been on the ground since 1994. I have through my NGO work impacted communities in Talensi . Alibo is a known character”.
