36 individuals from the 14 constituencies in the Upper East Region have successfully filed their nomination forms to contest in the ongoing processes by the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), to have parliamentary candidates in orphan constituencies elected.

Apart, from the Binduri Constituency, in which the NPP has a sitting member of parliament, the rest remain orphan constituencies.

After the close of nomination on Thursday August 10, Bawku Central Constituency, has the highest number of aspirants which is six vying to be the parliamentary candidate. One person, Ayuuba Seidu, who initially picked nomination forms, decided not to file, thereby, bringing the number down from the initial seven to six.

Three constituencies, including the Bolga East, Builsa North and Pusiga will have no contest since the aspirants are going unopposed. The three, Silas Amoah of Bolga East Constituency, Thomas Alonsi of Builsa North and Alhaji Abdul-Wahab Hanan will, however, face very tough opposition in 2024 elections as they come against NDC’s Dr. Dominic Ayine, James Agalga and Hajia Lardi Ayamba respectively.

The next constituency with the highest number of aspirants is Navrongo Central with five individuals contesting the party’s slot.

In all, three females including Madam Diana Aburiya Asuure of Bongo, Georgina Laadi Azumah of Garu and Agwanwa Gabiana Bugri of the Bawku Constituency will take part in this year’s race.
