The Office of Special Prosecutor has denied reports that it has disclosed the amounts of monies found in the bank accounts of former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah to a section of the media.

In the afternoon of Thursday, August 10, 2023, there were wide media reports that sources within the anti-graft agency have disclosed the amounts of monies and investments found in the Prudential Bank and Societe General Bank accounts of the former Minister.

The OSP, per the reports, found amounts of $5 million and GH¢48 millions in the 2 out of her 4 Prudential Bank accounts.

It was said to have also found GH¢1 million in investments and GH¢700,000 in cash in the embattled ex-minister’s SG-SSB accounts.

But in a post on social media, the OSP said it has not disclosed such information to the media.

It, thus, urged the public to disregard the reports.

“The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has not disclosed or revealed any information or details in respect of the bank accounts of Cecilia Abena Dapaah, which are under a frozen order issued by the Special Prosecutor,” it stated.

“The OSP urges the public to disregard media accounts on purported bank balances reported to have been disclosed by the OSP”.

Meanwhile, the OSP has filed an application at an Accra High Court after it discovered and seized substantial amounts of monies stashed in her Abelemkpe residence and subsequently, directed the freezing of her bank accounts.

Following her resignation as minister of sanitation, Ms. Dapaah was arrested by the anti-graft agency and her residences were searched.

The OSP, in documents filed at the court, revealed that it had discovered cash sums of $590,000 and GH¢2.73 million during the search.

It is, therefore, seeking an approval of the court to continue holding on to the money and keep her bank accounts frozen while it probes the matter further.

The court has set August 17, 2023 to rule on the application.
