YOROGO TIGSTAABA LEARNING CENTER

Residents of Yorogo, a suburb of Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region, have officially commissioned a newly constructed Library Complex on February 20, 2026.

Known as the Yorogo Tigstaaba Never Stop Dreaming Learning Center, the library complex stands out as one that challenges the youth of the community to dream beyond the immediate environs.

The center is to serve as model learning center for students from the community and to improve the learning of information communication technology (ICT).

Construction of the library began in 2020 following the inaugural festival celebration through contributions from residents of the community as part of the festival.

Subsequently, US-based philanthropists took over the funding of the project from the lintel stage. The team, led by Adams Schanz, has so far invested over GH¢700,000 in the project and have set out to fully equip the center with computers.

The library project was initiated as part of efforts to celebrate the development-oriented Tigstaaba Festival, which was first held in 2019 with the aim of uniting the community, promoting culture, and driving local development.

Speaking a ceremony to commission the facility, the Chairman of the Yorogo Tigstaaba Dr. Gilbert Ayinbire Abonuusom, expressed profound gratitude to the people of Yorogo for their trust in the committee that led to the realization of the project.

“In 2019, the about fifty thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC 50,000) realized, was used to initiate a one storey, ultra-modern ICT/Library project. When, it reached the decking stage, a philanthropic team from the USA came to do free eye surgeries in Yorogo and as part of their plans to help, they visited the Yorogo Primary/JHS schools to interact with the pupils and donate footballs to them.

Given that the ICT/Library project is by the school, they found us working on it, enquired about it and the leader, Mr. Adams Schanz, donated one thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC1,000) instantly and promised to help us to complete and stock it with computers and books.”

” True to his word, he sent money generously to finish it, install one of the fastest internets (StarLink) in Africa and stock it with laptops for the ribbon cutting. They would further stock it with more than hundred computers and thousands of books in due course. When they came this time, they did not only donate money, starLink Internet, laptops, tablets and cameras, but they actively participated in the work; painting, cleaning as well as installing the machines they brought in order to get the center ready for commissioning.”

OFFICIAL COMMISSIONING OF THE LIBRARY COMPLEX

In his speech read on his behalf, the Chief of Yorogo, Naba Johnson Awuni Azebire, noted that libraries are the heartbeat of communities where curiosity is nurtured.

“ Libraries are the heartbeat of a developing community. They are not just buildings holding books; they are spaces where curiosity meets opportunities and where the future is actively being written. I remember in the early stages of this project, we had a vision to create a safe haven for learning; a ‘third place’ outside of home and school where our children Could explore.”

“We want to move beyond books and create a digital ready hub equipped to meet the needs of the 21st century.  I want to take this opportunity to express my deep appreciation to our donor partners for their unwavering, sacrificial support which made this project a reality. We are sincerely grateful to you for your selfless love for us.”

While thanking the donors, he indicated that the project serves as a testament of what a united community can do.

“This project is a testament to the idea that when we collaborate, we can create sustainable, life-changing infrastructure. It also confirms the fact that if we work together, nothing will be impossible for us to do. Therefore, in line with the theme for this occasion, I invite Yeriba to never stop dreaming.”
